STEPHEN A SHIELDS DEAD Stephen A. Shields, 73, a resident of Montgomery County since 1883, died at midnight Sunday, March 26, 1933, at his home in Red Oak, Iowa, after a six month’s illness from cancer. Funeral services were held at 2:30 Tuesday afternoon at the Perryman Chapel, with Rev. F. W. Simpson of the Methodist Church in charge. Pall bearers were Clifford and Frank Braden, Arthur Smith, Clifford, Frank, and Stanley King. Burial was in Salem Cemetery in West Township. Stephen A. Shields was born in Illinois, February 8, 1860, a son of Chas. R. and Mary Shields. He grew to manhood in Illinois and came to Montgomery County, Iowa. He was married March 16, 1887, to Sarah C. King, at Red Oak. Mr. and Mrs. Shields retired from their farm and moved to Red Oak in 1901. They have no children. Deceased is survived by his widow, a brother, Roland Shields, Portland, Oregon and two sisters, Mrs. Eliza Smith, Red Oak, and Mrs. Effie Braden, Red Oak. The Red Oak Sun, Red Oak, Iowa, March 31, 1933 Stephen A. Shields aged 73 years, 1 months, 18 days, retired farmer and mechanic, born February 8, 1860 in Illinois to Charles R. Shields, born in Indiana and Mary Virgess, born in Illinois. He died March 26, 1933 in Montgomery County, Iowa of cancer of the stomach, W. S. Riley, M. D., burial March 28, 1933 in Salem Lutheran Church Plumber Settlement Cemetery, R. H. Perryman, undertaker, informant was Mrs. Sarah Shields.
