After his military service, he went to work for Elgin Standard Brick for several years before taking a position with Alcoa; he ultimately retired as a Smelter Foreman in 1982. He worked hard all his life and loved to farm and ranch even after retirement. In retirement, he helped build many churches with the Texas Baptist Men Church Builders. Howard is preceded in death by both parents; his wife Bonnie; a daughter-in-law, Molly Turnipseed; three sisters, Frances Jackson, Winnie Barnett and Lois Turnipseed; three brothers, Elmer, Harold and Phillip Buddy Turnipseed.
