Graveside services for Joann Homer, 75, of Gainesville, are set for 2 p.m. Monday, Oct. 4, 2010 at Fairview Cemetery in Gainesville with Pastor Scott Sundbye officiating, under the direction of the Geo. J. Carroll & Son Funeral Home. A visitation will be held today, Oct. 3, from 3 to 4 p.m. at the funeral home. Joann Homer was born on May 7, 1935 in Chatfield to Luther Woodrow and Bertha Mae Griffith Heizer. She went to be with the Lord on Sept. 30, 2010 in Gainesville. Mrs. Homer was a past district president of the P.T.A. and a lifetime member. She was also a past president of the Jaycettes. She married Jim Homer on May 22, 1953 in Gainesville. She worked along-side Jim in the family business until its closing and then later became a Realtor and broker. Joann was also an avid deer hunter. She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Mike and Debra Homer of Denton; daughter and son-in-law, Ann and Keith Porter of Gainesville; daughter, Lynn Homer of Muenster; grandchildren, Shauna Ressler, Trevor Porter, Chris Porter and Walt Porter; great-grandchildren, Kylie Hicks and Halie Hicks. She is also survived by her sister, Doris Jean Whitlock of Arlington; brother, Teddy Joe Collard of Ferris; sister, Sherri Mason of Ennis; brother, Donald Heizer of Benbrook; brother, Dennis Heizer of White Settlement; brother, Richard Heizer of Azle and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Jim in 2000 and a brother, William Harold Collard.
