Funeral services for William P. "Bill" Gatlin, 76, retired director of The Chronicle supply department, will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday in Boulevard Cullen Chapel. He died Wednesday in his home at 7722 Junior. Gatlin, a native of Arkansas, was a Houston resident for 57 years. He operated a box factory on Leeland from 1915 -1932, when he sold it and joined The Chronicle. He retired in 1958. He was a great-nephew of Richard Gordon Gatling, inventor of the famous Gatling gun. He said there was a variation in the family name. Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. H. J. (Thelma) Macicek of Houston; son, William P. Gatlin, Jr., head of The Chronicle mail department, and Arthur M. of Manila, Philippines; several stepdaughters; and a sister, Mrs, Myrtle E.
