ANNIE WOOD ON HER HEADSTONE - full name: Zuerett Ann Dawson (SMITH) CASE, ELLISON, WOOD...........Annie was the daughter of Thomas J. Smith and Elizabeth D. Walker. On the US Census 1860 Maury Co.,Tenn she was living with her parents. In July 1870 living in Maury Co., TN living with her parents and sibblings. And also, John S. Case and he was listed as a boarder and a school teacher. But, 2 days before the 1870 US Census on July 22, 1870 Annie and John S. Case were married the 20 July 1870 Maury Co., Tenn. John S. Case and Annie were not shown as husband and wife. John Stimpson Case and Zuerett Annie Dawson (Smith) Case would have 3 children, all born in Tenn. John was from Kentucky, and he was called home to Kentucky to sell some real estate. He never returned, nor was there ever any word from him, and no one knew where he was. They assummed he met with an accident and died. Annie would marry the 2nd time to Gus Ellison. I found the 3 Case children in Tenn., living with their mother and their step father. Eolian Savilla (CASE) Barker said, "she was 10 years old when they moved to Texas." She was born in 1875. Making the migration to Texas in 1885. During the next 10 years Gus Ellison and Annie would have 2 children together. Gus died about 1894. Annie married for the 3rd time to James Polk Wood on the 30th of July 1895 in Ellis Co., TX. No children to their union. However; both James Polk Wood and Annie had children from their previous marriage. On the 7 Dec 1915, at Rankin, Ellis Co., TX James Polk Wood died. He was buried beside his first wife, mother of his children at the Cemetery in Bardwell, Ellis Co., TX in Elm Branch Cemetery. Oddly enough, J. P. Wood is buried close to the road, and just behind his family plot, a few rows back is Eolian (Case) Barker's mother in-law and a brother in-law and grandparents of James A. "Babe" Barker. The cemetery road forms a horse shoe road, giving 2 entrances or exits to the cemetery from the County Line Road and it is the West part of the road, towards the center of the cemetery, You can see the grave markers of James Polk Wood from the road, his family head stones are Large... Annie would move to Claude, Armstrong Co., TX and live with her son Gus Ellison and his wife. At the same time, her sons Rosvall Stimpson "Rozy" Case, Virgil Lucious "Virgie" Case and daughter Eolian Savilla (CASE) Barker would also be residents of Claude,Armstrong Co., Texas. I have never located the resting places for her 1st husband John Stimpson Case, or her 2nd husband Gus Ellison. Perhaps one day I will, I look often. Some researchers have John Stimpson Case's father as Dr. John Stimpson Case, SR. of Kentucky. I have not been able to prove this. More work is needed. I just have not found the link that many others have.
