Ralph W. Brown, 86, of Kearney, formerly of Sumner, died Friday, Sept. 3, 2010, at St. Luke's Good Samaritan Center in Kearney. Mac was born Oct. 17, 1923, at Sumner to William and Sophie (Snurr) Brown. On Dec. 3, 1949, he married Irma Barta. She died in August 1998. Survivors are: son, David Brown and his wife, Cindy, of Kearney; daughters, Diana Dodd of Gibbon, Denise Rodenbaugh of Kearney and Dixie Journey and her fiancé, Tobin, of Kearney; sister, Ines Cunningham of Lincoln; 13 grandchildren; and 22 great-grandchildren and a host of friends and relatives. Mac grew up in Sumner and graduated from high school there in 1941. Mac entered the U.S. Army in 1943 and served during World War II. He was honorably discharged in January 1946. Mac and Irma farmed his parents' land until 1952 and then worked on a ranch north of Sumner. Mac was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars of Lexington and a former member of the Eagles. He liked to play cards and garden. However, his greatest pride and love was with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Charles, Robert and Russell Brown; and sisters, Agnes and Dawn Cunningham. Published in the Kearney Hub on 9/7/2010
