Bio

W.P. Houck, 78 year-old county pioneer, died at 4:00 p.m. Sunday at his home here after a six week illness. Funeral rites were at 4:00 p.m. Monday in the Eastview auditorium, Mark McElhaney, Church of Christ minster, in charge. Burial was in the Jester Cemetery. Survivors include his wife; four sons, Sherman of Eastview; Austin and Dewey of Mangum; Pete of Lone Wolf; three daughters, Mrs. Austin Holland of Mangum; Mrs. Bonnie Hogan of Mobeetie, TX; Mrs. Novelle McKissack of Houston, TX; eighteen grandchildren; 5 great grandchildren; two sisters, and a brother. Mr. Houck came to Mangum from Collin County, Texas in 1889 as an 18 year-old cowboy. After working on ranches in this section, he settled on a farm near Jester.
