Bio

Evelyn Gaines Mangus, 90, of Moberly died Thursday at 8:15 p.m. in Columbia Regional Hospital. Born Dec. 10, 1907, in Macon County, she was a daughter of the late Robert and Dessie Berry Jeffrey. Mrs. Mangus, a homemaker and a school teacher, had managed the former Gaines Appliance Company in Moberly 30 years. She was a member of Central Christian Church. On March 1, 1926, she married Alva M. Gaines and he died March 1, 1977. She later married Terry Mangus and he died Aug. 24, 1989. She was also preceded in death by three brothers. Surviving are a son, William A. (Bill) Gaines, Moberly; a daughter and son-in-law, Betty Jo and Lewis Barbre, West Paducah, KY; step-son and daughter-in-law, Bailey and Nina Mangus, Renick; five grandchildren: Janis Earle, Peoria, IL; JoAnn Cooksey, Kevil, KY; Angie Birdsong, Pineville; David Gaines, Newton, IA, and Dianna Robb, Cuba; 11 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews including Jerry and Carolyn Jeffrey and Billie Jeffrey, Moberly. Services will be 2 p.m. Sunday in Cater Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery with Dr. Dennis Lake officiating. Visitation will be from 5 until 7 p.m. Saturday at Cater's.
