Private, Company F, 18th Regiment, Louisiana Infantry, CSA "....Mr. Pullen finished his education at Shelbyville when the school there was the best in the country, under the direction of Professor W. C. Huntington and his good wife. He was a native of Louisiana and married Miss Allie Rather, a daughter of Dr. Daniel Rather.... "Mr. Pullen was an unusually intelligent man, though afflicted with deafness most of his life and was in every respect a good citizen. He lived in Shelby County sixty years. "Much of the present advancement shown in the affairs of the county is due to those like Mr. Pullen, who left their native states and made their home in that county...." —From "Presiding Judge Short Writes Us Welcome Letter on John C.
