Obituary - Joseph William (Joe) Rourke, Sr. Joseph William (Joe) Rourke, 91, passed away in his sleep on April 19, 2006, of natural causes at Friendsview Manor, Newberg, Oregon. Joe was born October 10, 1914 in Broken Bow, Nebraska. He married Leola Edith Gibson on January 19, 1938 in Boise, Idaho. They had eight children: Myrna Lea (Frank) Tuning of Wilder, Idaho; Joseph William [Bill], Jr. (Myrlene) of Newberg, Oregon; Michael Eugene (Connie) of DeSoto, Missouri; Maurine Louise (Butch) Freeman of Eagle, Idaho; Stanley Craig (Beckey) of Boise, Idaho; John Edmund (Lisa) of Wilder, Idaho; Dennis Steven of Boise. Idaho; and Robin Christine (Keith) Fritts of Moro, Oregon. Joe and Leola lived in Boise, Idaho from 1938 until December, 1991 when they moved to Friendsview Manor, Newberg, Oregon. He worked as a civilian inspector at Gowan Field, Boise, Idaho, working with aircraft damaged in the Pacific during WWll, then worked for Vernon Brothers and Morrison-Knudsen before becoming a mechanic at Roy C. Davidson's Ford Dealership, Boise, Idaho in 1952. He continued when it became Bob Rice Ford until his retirement in 1986 at age 72. Joe was a very active member of Whitney Friends Church in Boise as well as North Valley Friends in Newberg. He will be remembered for his integrity, quiet diplomacy, and love for and service to God and his family. He was preceded in death by his parents, Edmund Leo Rourke and Mary Estella Craig, infant son Brian Dean, brother Harold Rourke, and sisters Mary Litty and Catherine Waldron. He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Leola Rourke, sisters Helen Gibson and Arletta West, eight children, twenty grandchildren and twenty-five great-grandchildren. Memorial services will be Friday, April 21, 2006, 7 p.m. at North Valley Friends Church in Newberg and 3 p.m. Sunday, April 23, 2006, at Whitney Friends Church in Boise. Burial will be at Cloverdale Cemetery, Boise, Idaho. Attrell's Funeral Home, Newberg, Oregon is in charge of arrangements. The family requests that memorials be given to Greenleaf Friends Academy, Greenleaf, Idaho in lieu of flowers.
