Donald D. Urban, 70 of Piedmont, OK, was born on Sept. 28, 1932 to Emil and Clarissa Baird Urban in Ord, Nebraska. He went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, October 26, 2002, after a long and valiant battle with cancer. He is survived by his wife Geraldine 'Gerry' Urban; sons Don Urban II of Tampa, Florida and Tom Urban and wife Joyce of Yukon, OK; daughter Susan Scott and husband Jerry of Piedmont, OK, and grandchildren Alexandra Urban, Cameron, Connor and Kaylee Scott. He is preceded in death by his parents and sister Maurine Rosser. Don graduated from Central High School in Oklahoma City, attended Central State University in Edmond, and Oklahoma City University. He became a manufacturer's representative with Shakespeare Sporting Goods, which took him and his young family to Kalamazoo, Michigan, Tacoma, Washington, and eventually home to Oklahoma to be the Shakespeare representative in the Oklahoma, Arkansas and North Texas region. After leaving Shakespeare, he represented many manufacturers of sporting goods products. It is said that if a man chooses something he loves to make his career, then he will never have to work a day in his life; Don loved his work and it showed in his success and his relationship with his customers. He loved to fish, hunt, play golf and tennis, garden, and just about any activity that took him outdoors. He will be missed by family and longtime friends, as well as the many new fiends who came to know him during his long struggle with his illness. The family wishes to thank Dr. Brian Geister and his staff, the Radiology staff at Mercy, and Elaine Stone and the staff at Oklahoma County Hospice for their kind and loving care through the many trials of his illness. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you make donations to Piedmont First United Methodist Church, the American Cancer Society, or Oklahoma County Hospice. The family will receive friends at Chapel Hill Funeral Home, 6-8 p.m. on Tuesday, October 29. A Memorial Service will be held at Piedmont United Methodist Church, Wednesday, October 30, at 11:00 a.m., following a private graveside service.
