Don R. Fillinger, 73, of Grand Island died Sunday, Aug. 15, 2010, at the home of his daughter in Grand Island. Don was born July 11, 1937, at Greeley to Oswald and Arlene (Murphy) Fillinger. Survivors are: his wife, Marge; sons and daughter-in-law, Donnie Fillinger and Pat and Theresa Fillinger of Grand Island; daughter and son-in-law, Judy 'Tooter' and David Marler of Grand Island; and brother and sister-in-law, Dale and Sally Fillinger of Grand Island; grandchildren, Courtney, Carlie, Chantel, Cheryl, Christa, David and Daniel 'Boonie'; great-grandchildren, Alexis, Mia, Addie, Quentin, Kale and Camie and lifelong friend, Tom Fisher of Grand Island and a host of friends and relatives. He was welcomed into heaven by his parents; son, Jeff; sister, Darlene Winrow; infant brother, Joseph and all of his dogs which he loved dearly. Don moved to Grand Island as a young man attending St. Mary's Catholic School. He entered the United States Marine Corp on June 6, 1956 and was honorably discharged on June 5, 1962. He was united in marriage to Marjorie 'Marge' Pokorney on Aug. 7, 1957. They made their home in Grand Island where Don was employed by Kelly Well Drilling for 26 years. He then became a self employed truck driver. Memberships include Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, the Platt-Duetsche and the American Legion. He enjoyed spending time with family at their cabin on Johnson Lake and supporting all of his kids and grandkids sporting events. He was an avid husker fan and loved spending time with his dogs.
