1935 Obituary: "John Kosch was born November 16, 1860, in Janowitz, Mahrensdorf, Austria, and died in Shelby, NE, August 2, 1935, at the age of 74 years, 8 months and 16 days. He came across to this country with his aunt and uncle at the age of nine years, where he was raised on a farm near Bellwood, Nebr., then later worked in Butler county, where he grew to manhood. Then he came to Polk county to farm. Later he was united in marriage to Rosalia Bernt, fifty one years ago this 14th day of August. To this union was born two daughters, Martha Rinke and Augusta Messing, both of Shelby. Besides his two daughters, eleven grandchildren and two great grandchildren survive, About five years later he moved from the valley to the table land about five miles northwest of Shelby where he farmed until he moved to Shelby where he resided for twenty-three years until his death. Funeral services were held Monday morning at nine o'clock from Sacred Heart church, of Shelby, and burial made in the Catholic cemetery." -------------------- John Kosch married Rosa Bernt date of license 25 Aug 1884, ......Polk county marriage index, Vol 1, Page 268.
