Services for Johnny Everett Zabcik, 84, of McKinney, formerly of Temple will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Temple Brethren Center with Larry Zabcik and Paul Krupicka officiating. Burial will follow in Ocker Brethren Church Cemetery near Zabcikville. Mr. Zabcik died Tuesday, Aug. 10, in a McKinney nursing home. He was born on Oct. 26, 1925, to John Alfred and Elnora Baletka Zabcik in Barclay. He graduated from Rosebud High School in 1942 and from Texas A&M University in 1946. He served in the U.S. Navy as a fire controlman on the USS Rowe and was honorably discharged on May 4, 1946. On Dec. 23, 1946, he married Dorothy Bedrich in Temple. They moved to Temple in 1952, and lived there until moving to McKinney in 2009. He worked for E.R. Carpenter in Temple for 25 years and was one of the first to be honored as a member of the Carpenter Pantheon. Survivors include his wife of McKinney; two sons, David Zabcik of The Woodlands and Don Zabcik of Fairview; a daughter, Jan Zabcik of Irving; two brothers, Daniel Zabcik of Houston and Ben Krupicka of Waco; and three grandchildren. Memorials may be made to Temple Brethren Church, 2202 Birdcreek Drive, Temple, 76502. Visitation will be 5-8 p.m. today at Scanio-Harper Funeral Home in Temple.
