Bio

James Edward Hill, 65, a native of Omaha, Neb., died Feb. 19, 1998. He had retired as a master chief with the U.S. Navy after 20 years of service. Mr. Hill was a veteran of Korea and Vietnam. He also retired from the Webb Center at Old Dominion University in Food Operations Management. He helped coach Plaza Little League for many years. He was a member of LaCross Presbyterian Church in Hampton. Survivors include his wife, Mary C. Hill; two daughters, Becky Vester of Rocky Mount, N.C., and Elizabeth Hansen of Virginia Beach; two sons, James Daniel Hill of Chesapeake and Scott Hill of Virginia Beach; his mother, Margaret Mae Hentges Chloupek of Huntsville, Mo.; a sister, Priscilla Potter, also of Huntsville; a brother, Anton Chloupek of Moberly, Mo.; four grandchildren; eight step-grandchildren; one step-great-grandchild; two stepdaughters, Lorraine Burkett of Ormond Beach, Fla., and Annette Holmes of Arlington, Va.; and two stepsons, Billy Stephens Jr. of Virginia Beach and Philip Stephens of Capron, Va. A funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Monday in Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Lynnhaven Chapel, by the Rev. David LaSalle. Burial will be in Colonial Grove Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 2 to 3:30 p.m. and 7 to 8:30 p.m. today in the funeral home. Memorial donations may be made to the American Heart Association or Diabetes Association.
