Vincent Charles Sykora enlisted in the US Army on 18 March 1941 in Dallas, Texas. Pvt. Vincent Sykora was a member of A Company, 192nd Tank Battalion (Service Number 38040765). He fought on Bataan and became a Prisoner of War on April 9, 1942. He took part in the death march and was held as a POW at Camp O'Donnell, Cabanatuan, and Davao. He died when the Japanese transport he was on, the Shinyo Maru, was torpedoed by an American submarine. Some POWs died in the explosion while others were shot by the Japanese as they attempted to leave the ship's holds. Still others were shot while they swam to shore.
