Robert served as a Private, 222nd Infantry Regiment, 42nd Infantry Division, U.S. Army during World War II. He resided in Colfax County, Nebraska prior to the war. He enlisted in the Army on July 28, 1944 at Fort Leavenworth, Kansas. He was noted, at the time of his enlistment, as being employed as a Farm hand and also as Single, without dependents. Robert was declared "Missing In Action" near Haguenau, France during the war. He was awarded the "Bronze Star" and the Purple Heart. Service # 37748205 His brother, SSgt. Adolph F.
