Leonard was born 1 October 1903 in Weston, Collin Co., Texas to Frank McGagie (Micajah) Bennett and Dorcie Lee McCoy Bennett. He died 11 August 1967 of heart disease in Fort Worth, Tarrant Co., Texas. He was a teacher, a violinist, a wood craftsman, a gardener, fisherman, Democrat, son, husband, father, and a good and gracious man. His Texas Death Certificate lists him as 'Single' but he was married on December 23rd 1926 to Florence Jane Yarbrough in Weatherford, Parker Co., Texas. They had been married almost 41 years when he died. She survived him by 27 years.
