Standard U.S. Military White Cross (well maintained)
Roy Hubert Wisby was the first born child of William and Ida Wisby, he had three sisters and a brother (a fourth sister died in infancy). He proudly enlisted in the U.S. Army (Service ID/Serial #: 34290690), on April 7, 1942, and was serving at the rank of Corporal in the 164th Quartermaster Battalion (Medical Supply Section), 5th Armored Division, in Belgium, when the Germans launched their massive offensive on December 16, 1944, commencing the first day, of would later be known by the allies as the "Battle of the Bulge" (German: Wacht am Rhine). The German juggernaut inflicted huge losses for the Allies (with substantial KIA, WIA, and POW's). Roy was one of many U.S. Soldiers killed on that initial terrifying day. Sadly, specific circumstances of his death, are not known. He was posthumously awarded the Bronze Star Medal and the Purple Heart Medal, and was later buried at the Henri-Chapelle American Cemetery and Memorial in Belgium. Roy was only 25 years old.
