Long Illness Fatal To Mrs. John Cherny Mrs. John Cherny, for fifty-seven years a resident of North Bend, died at her home Monday morning at five o'clock. Mrs. Cherny had been in ill health for several years, suffering with diabetes. She had been confined to her bed most of the time for a little over a year. Her age at death was seventy-six years, five months and twenty-nine days. Mrs. Cherny was a devoted wife and mother. She loved the realm of home best and it was there that her interests centered. She was a kindly and gracious neighbor and friend to all and a most hospitable hostess. She was identified with the Degree of Honor and Rebekah lodges in her earlier years having been a charter member of each. She held membership in the ZCBJ lodge at Morse Bluff. On April 27, 1936, Mr. and Mrs. Cherny celebrated their golden wedding. They kept open house to their friends that day and were showered with gifts, lovely bouquets and well wishes of a host of friends. Victoria Sedlacek, daughter of John and Anna Sedlacek, was born December 23, 1860, in Polen, Czechoslovakia. At the age of twenty years she came to the United States and located in North Bend, Nebraska. She was married in Omaha on April 27, 1886, to John Cherny of North Bend. To this union were born two sons and three daughters who with her husband and nine grand children survive her. One sister, Mrs. Peter Sloser of Dwight died in February of this year of the same affliction as Mrs. Cherny. Funeral services conducted by Rev. Filipi of Clarkson were held at the residence Wednesday afternoon at 2:00 o'clock. A very large gathering of relatives and friends were present to pay tribute to the memory of a well spent life. Great masses of beautiful flowers attested to the esteem in which she was held. A quartet whose personnel was Mrs. H. C. Diffey, Mrs. Elmer Scott, Robert Bloch and J. R. Tapster sang two numbers, "Beautiful Isle of Somewhere", and "In the Garden." He preached the sermon in the both the English and the Bohemian language. Pall bearers were Albert and Edward Hines, Frank and James Cherny, Jr., Albert and Emil Cherny. Burial was made in the Killian cemetery southwest of Morse Bluff.
