Son of Walter E. Nunnelee and Caroline [Gresham] both natives of Georgia. Served CSA Co D 37th Al Inf. His parents divorced 31 Jan 1852 in Chambers Co AL and I have found no trace of his father since. His mother died between 1870-80 in Tx - probably Hill or Robertson county. Brother of James who married Susan [Baggett], John, William, Mary, and Cornelia who married Phillip Martin Burt. 1m Hadie [Griffin] 1874 Tx: 3 chn; 2m Cora Ellizan [Anderson] 06 May 1885 Tx: 8 chn. His grave has been unmarked for many years but I soon hope to get a Confederate marker. He was an eloquent speaker and a teacher by trade. For whatever reason, Great-Grandpa told ALL of his children that he had been "born in France, graduated from Oxford University in London, studied law all over Europe, and had been the 1st president of Baylor University in Waco, Texas" - NONE of this was true !!! He was born in Georgia, raised in Alabama, moved to Texas with his mother and sister Cornelia in 1866, and was a 6th generation "American" to boot !!! Seldom is Nunnelee spelled correctly in the legal records!
