James married Mollie about 1859. It is not known if they married in Tennessee or Texas, but the children were all born in Texas. After the Civil War, they bought some land for a farm about 4 miles south of Gilmer on the Pritchett highway (155). This is where they reared their children and lived out their lifetime. He helped build the first jailhouse in Gilmer, county seat of Upshur County, Texas. His wife, Mollie, died in 1891. James was 87 when he died in 1920.
