Bio

DNA RESULTS THROUGH THE PEACOCK DNA PROJEC HAS POVED THAT THIS ALFRED IS N-O-T THE SON OF LEVI PEACOCK AS SOME ARE RECORDING IT!!!!!! It is speculated by family members that Alfred is buried here at the Laramore Cemetery, in an unmarked grave. If I should find out different in the future, I will transfer him to the correct cemetery. It is not known when Alfred died for sure, but around 1885 or so. HIS CHILDREN AT FINDAGRAVE ARE: Demarquis "Fate"Lafayette Peacock 19659076 John Erwin Peacock 13579139 Alfred Isaiah Peacock 13578902 Other children not found on FAG are James M., William A., Jesse F., (Possibly Lucy P.), Susan Belle Peacock Brezell O'Rear, Georgia J. Alfred's death was during the time period of 1874-1885. There are no records which have been found to document his death. IT IS INTERESTING TO NOTE THAT WHEN ALFRED PEACOCK WAS BORN IN BARNWELL COUNTY, SOUTH CAROLINA, APRIL 9, 1795, THAT GEORGE WASHINGTON WAS STILL PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES. ALMOST NOTHING IS KNOWN OF ALFRED'S EARLY LIFE, UNTIL MARCH 1813, WHEN HE MARRIED SELY KEATING IN TWIGGS COUNTY, GEORGIA. Alfred has been traced to the following locations: 1795, S. C., 1813 , Twiggs Co, Ga. (marriage to Sely), 1827 Wilkinson Co, Ga., 1830 Wilcox Co, Al., 1833 Alabama, 1850 and 1851 Caddo Parish, La., 1856 Lafayette Co, Ar., and from 1865 until his death in Johnson Co., Tx. In 1865 a wagon train travelled from Arkansas and was made up of friends and relatives from Mississippi. It is believed that Alfred traveled with this group. In the 1830 census, Alfred does not have a spouse listed, so it is assumed that he and some of his children came out west then. He lived with his daughter, in 1870, in Grandview, Tx. This daughter was Susan Belle Peacock Brazell (later O'Rear) Alfred is not on the 1880 census. Military record: War of 1812 Enlisted Aug 22 1813, Sandersville, Washington Co., Ga. Discharged Feb 11, 1814, at Milledgeville, Ga. Served as a Pvt. of Capt. John Irwin's Co. in Maj. Freeman's Cavalry regiment in the Gerogia Milita, commanded by General Floyd. He was at Camp Hope, Georgia in Aug. 1812, and marched to Ft. Lawrence on Flint River, then to Ft. Mitchell and then to Autossy Villiage on the Talapoosa River where he was engaged in the battle of Autossy. Another record states: 10 months of service , War of the Creek Nations in Capt. Irwin's Co. of the Gerogia Milita, commanded by Col. Nunan (Newman?) Pension filed: Dec 24, 1874, both wives dead at that time, and granted on April 24, 1875. There were two BOUNTY GRANTS in Louisiana. (See Larry Singleton's records below) Timeline for Alfred: 1795, S. C., 1813 , Twiggs Co, Ga. (marriage to Sely), 1827 Wilkinson Co, Ga., 1830 census of Wilcox Co., Al shows 5 boys and 4 girls in Alfred's household. 1833 Alabama, Bounty Land, Caddo Parish, La., Dec. 3 1850, age 55 1850 Census, Caddo Parrish, La. age 58 1850 and 1851 Caddo Parish, La., Filed for pension, Cass County, Tx. Feb 12 1856 at age 61 1856 Lafayette Co, Ar Filed for Pension Johnson Co., Tx., Dec 24, 1850 age 80 and from 1865 until his death in Johnson Co., Tx. He lived with his daughter, Susan, in 1870, in Grandview, Tx. Pension filed: Dec 24, 1874, both wives dead at that time, and granted on April 24, 1875. AS FAR AS IS KNOWN ALFRED WAS A FARMER ALL OF HIS LIFE. HE RECEIVED TWO 80 ACRE LAND GRANTS WHILE LIVING IN CADDO PAR- RISH, LA. HE APPLIED FOR A PENSION AND RECEIVED $8.00 A MONTH. HE DID NOT RECEIVE THE PENSION UNTIL 1875, WHEN HE WAS 80 YEARS OLD. THE FAMILY APPEARS TO BE PART OF A GROUP THAT LEFT ALABAMA AFTER 1845. WE KNOW THE GROUP WAS LIVING IN MISSISSIPPI AND LOUISIANA BEFORE MOVING TO ARKANSAS IN 1854, WHERE THE PEACOCK FAMILY LIVED FOR ABOUT 11 YEARS. ACCORDING TO MILLER CO., ARKANSAS TAX ROLLS,ALFRED OWNED TWO SEPERATE PLOTS OF LAND IN THAT COUNTY IN 1854, 1860 AND 1862. IN 1865 TAX RECORDS SHOW HE OWNED 320 ACRES LAND VALUE, $480.00, 2 HORSES-$100.00, 9 CATTLE OVER 2YRS OLD, $72.00, TOTAL WORTH- $672.00. IN 1868, 320 ACRES, VALUE- $480,00, NO ANIMALS. THE APPARENT LEADER OF THIS GROUP WAS JOHN MONROE ANDERSON. ANDERSON, HIS WIFE, MALINDA BRYAN AND DAUGHTER MARTHA, WHO WAS MARRIED TO ALFRED'S SON, JOHN ERWIN PEACOCK, CAME TO JOHNSON CO., TEXAS ABOUT 1864 OR 1865, WHILE JOHN ERWIN PEACOCK WAS STILL SERVING IN THE CONFEDERATE ARMY. (Medical disability granted in 1863 to John E. Peacock) WE BELIEVE ALFRED CAME TO JOHNSON COUNTY WITH HIS DAUGHTER, SUSAN (PEACOCK) BRAZELL AND FAMILY BETWEEN 1865 AND 1868. ALFRED IS SHOWN IN THE BRAZELL HOUSEHOLD IN THE 1870 CENSUS OF JOHNSON COUNTY. HE IS NOT SHOWN ON THE 1880 JOHNSON COUNTY CENSUS. WE BELIEVE ALFRED DIED BETWEEN 1875 AND 1880 AND IS BURIED IN AN UNMARKED GRAVE IN THE LARAMORE CEMETERY NEAR GRANDVIEW IN JOHNSON COUNTY. WE ALSO BELIEVE LOVINIA (BRADLEY) PEACOCK IS BURIED IN MILLER COUNTY ARKANSAS. WHETHER ALFRED AND SELY KEATING HAD ANY CHILDREN IS NOT KNOWN, BUT WE BELIEVE THAT MOLTON PEACOCK, WHO WAS THE RIGHT AGE AND TRAVELLED AND LIVED WITH THE GROUP, IS THEIR SON. ELIZABETH PEACOCK WHO MARRIED WILLIAM BECKHAM MAY ALSO BE THEIR CHILD. # # # Information in this biography: Sources are many, but some are: Wanda Peacock, Larry Singleton, Allen and Martha Cox, Edgar Williams.
