Shoots Teacher – Commits Suicide Rejected Suitor Slays Employer’s Daughter Before School Children Sends Bullet Through His Head a Moment Later in Near Cornfield Hartington, Nebraska, September 18 -- Cora Hintz, teacher in a rural school several miles southwest of this city, was shot and instantly killed yesterday morning at 9:30, by Frank Faust. After committing the deed Faust ran to a cornfield about half a mile from the school and committed suicide by shooting himself behind the right ear. Miss Hintz was 18 years old and a daughter of J. M. Hintz, living four miles east of Coleridge. Faust has been employed by Hintz and had been attempting to force his attentions upon the girl. Sunday night he called at the farm home where Miss Hintz was boarding and was refused admittance. Yesterday morning he called at the school house after school had be called. Miss Hintz left the room and after a brief conversation the school children heard four shots fired and saw the murderer run by the windows. Talk of marriage From bits of the conversation the children overheard he had attempted to induce the girl to marry him. A few years ago Faust attempted suicide by taking chloroform because a young lady refused to marry him. Faust shot the girl behind the left ear at such close range that her clothing was badly burned. After entering the corn field he apparently reloaded his revolver for when his body was found the revolver was lying in front of him with the chamber loaded with shells and only one discharged. He had two loaded cartridges in his left hand. The deed was doubtedly premeditated, as he purchased the revolver in Coleridge Saturday. Faust’s parents live in Pennsylvania. He has two aunts residing in the vicinity of Coleridge. The Lincoln Daily Star – Tuesday, September 18, 1917 (Provided by Find A Grave contributor Lori Frisch)
