L.T. 'Son' Martin Hopkins County Commissioner L.T. “Son” Martin died Wednesday morning in Hopkins County Memorial Hospital after a long illness. He served as commissioner 13 years, representing Precinct 4 which includes the northwest section of the county. County Judge Wayne Scott said, “Mr. Martin has served as commissioner in Precinct 4 for a number of years and was a close friend “I’ve known him all of my life and he served his community and his precinct well. He’ll be missed around the courthouse.” A successor will be named by Scott. Commissioner Martin, 70, of Route 3, Sulphur Springs, died at 5.55 a.m. Wednesday. Funeral services were conducted in the First Baptist Church with Dr. Charles Redmond and the Rev. L.B. Morgan officiating. Burial was in the Posey Cemetery with Joe Pogue, Max Drummond, Jackie Boles, Weldon Glossup, Frank Darrow, Tommy Sanderson, Mervin Chester and Aster McKeever serving as pallbearers Honorary pallbearers were members of the Busy Man’s Bible Class and members of the Hopkins County Commissioners Court. Mr. Martin was born July 18, 1913, in Hopkins County to A.G. Martin and Virgie Beadles Martin. He married Jewell Chapman on March 25, 1936, in Hopkins County. She survives. He was a member of the First Baptist Church, IOOF and Woodmen of the World. Other survivors include a son, Douglas Martin of Sulphur Springs; a brother, Douglas L, Martin of Sulphur Springs; and five grandchildren.
