Howard Jaeschke, 86, of Mason City died Tuesday, July 13, 2010, as the result of an auto accident near Litchfield. Howard was born March 16, 1924, in Rockville to William and Emma (Jakob) Jaeschke. He married Nola Munster on Aug. 17, 1946. Survivors are: daughters and sons-in-law, Emma Jean and Lyle Runyan of Sargent, Rebecca and James Haddix of Sidney, Adele and Larry Miller of Broken Bow and Laurie and Eldon Sheets of Hastings; son and daughter-in-law, Jordan and Kira Jaeschke of Kearney; 13 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren and a host of friends and relatives. He attended school in Rockville and graduated from Rockville High School in 1941. He served in the U.S. Navy in the Pacific theater from December 1944 until his discharge in 1946. Howard and Nola farmed near Pleasanton before moving to a farm south of Mason City. They moved to Mason City in 1966. Howard farmed before working at Becton Dickinson in Broken Bow. In 1967, he started work with the Custer County Bridge Department, where he worked until he retired in 1989. Howard enjoyed hunting, tractors, fishing and visiting. He was preceded in death by two infant brothers and three great-grandchildren. Published in The Grand Island Independent on 7/15/2010
