Bio

WILLIAM H. QUINN William Henry Quinn, one of three sons of Maude and Tom Quinn, was born on February 23, 1901, in Oxford, NE and died on April 3, 1981, in Alma, NE at the age of 80 years. Bill was born on a farm southwest of Oxford as was Edward, the first born, and James, the youngest. He grew up on the farm and attended country school through the eighth grade. In his early years he worked as a mechanic at Gupton's Garage and for a short time he worked for the Burlington Railroad. In 1923, he married Edith Coe and to this union three children were born: Dorothy May, James Thomas and Mary Donna. Bill and Edith owned and operated a filling station, Quinn Oil Company, which was built by Bill and his father. He and his father also built the house where Bill and his family lived. Bill operated a gasoline transport for many years. During WWII, he moved to Denver where he was employed in defense work at the Rocky Mountain Arsenal as a machinist. He later married Madeline Bard and they lived in Grand Island where Bill was employed as a mechanic at the Ford Garage. When he retired, he returned to Oxford to live. Bill was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers. He leaves to mourn his passing his daughter, Dorothy and her husband Pat Garrison of Orleans, his son Jim and his wife Adeline of Columbus, NE, and his daughter Donna and her husband Gerald Mollring of Holbrook; six grandchildren: Bill Garrison and wife Janis of Berthoud, CO, Don Garrison and wife Yvonne of Pender, NE, Gene Garrison and wife Marilyn of Rome, NY, Tom Quinn and wife Janet of Columbus, NE, Mike Quinn, also of Columbus, and Patty Quinn of Omaha; nine great-grandchildren; two sisters-in-law, Rozella Quinn of Oxford and Nellie Quinn of Lincoln; other relatives and many friends. Funeral services were conducted at the Mitchell-Nelson Funeral Home in Oxford, NE on Monday, April 6, 1981, with Rev. Warren Spellman, officiating. Music was by Linda Knipping as soloist and Kim Wilsey as organist. Bearers were William Garrison, Don Garrison, Eugene Garrison, Thomas Quinn, Michael Quinn and Charles Ellis. Interment was in the Oxford Cemetery, Oxford NE with arrangements by Mitchell-Nelson Funeral Home, Oxford, NE. - From the Arapahoe Public Mirror, April 9, 1981 - Mr. and Mrs. Pat Garrison, Orleans, NE, James Quinn, Columbus, NE and Mr. and Mrs. Gandhi Mollring, Holbrook, NE hosted a birthday dinner at the Pleasant Heights hospitality rooms in Oxford, honoring their father, W. H. Quinn, for his 80th birthday. Relatives and friends attending were Mr. and Mrs. William R. Garrison and sons, Berthoud, CO, Mr. and Mrs. Don Garrison and Carene, Pender, NE, Tom Quinn and son, Mike Quinn and James Quinn, all of Columbus, NE, Mrs. Edith Bocock, Mrs. Esteleen Ellis, Mrs. Ed Quinn, Charles Ellis and Charles Dillman, all of Oxford, NE, Mr. and Mrs. Virgil Wagner, McCook, NE, Mrs. Emery Quinn, Bob Quinn and Lucy Leonard of Beaver City, NE, Floyd Quinn and Mrs. Norma Hollinger of Edison, Mr. and Mrs. Vernon Blickenstaff and girls of Stamford, NE, Mr. and Mrs. Cecil Weir of Beaver City, Mr. and Mrs. Pat Garrison, Orleans and Mr. and Mrs. Gerald Mollring, Holbrook. - From the Cambridge Clarion, February 26, 1981 -
