George Theal (biological surname) was an Orphan Train rider. He came from New York when he was about 5 years old and got off in Ellis County, Kansas. George went to live with the "Nick" Zimmerman family where he was raised and educated. On George's WWI Draft Registration, George says he has no middle name (given at birth), and some people think that Theal is his middle name. The Gove County Advocate, (Quinter, KS) Thursday, August 2, 1951 Funeral Services Held For George Zimmerman Funeral services were conducted at the Sacred Heart church in Park Tuesday morning, July 31 at nine o'clock for George Theal Zimmerman, who passed away July 29 at his home in Quinter following a lingering illness. Father Ronald Schott officiated and interment was in the Sacred Heart cemetery. Pallbearers were Alex Depperschmidt, Seraphine Depperschmidt, Phillip Depperschmidt, Paul Depperschmidt, Augustine Depperschmidt, Henry Depperschmidt. The Gove County Advocate , (Quinter, KS) Thursday, August 9, 1951 OBITUARY --- George T. Zimmerman George Theal Zimmerman was born in New York City, N. Y., August 23, 1896 and came to at his home in Quinter, July 29, 1951. (Note this is written as found in the newspaper. There appears to be a couple of words missing between 'came to' and 'at his home'.) At the age of five years he went to Schoenchen, Kansas, where he resided in the home of Mr. and Mrs. Nick Zimmerman until 1916 when he was united in marriage to Miss Rosa Depperschmidt. They resided in Schoenchen until 1922 when they moved to Gove county to a farm south of Park, where they lived until 1925 when they moved to a farm north of Quinter and in 1943 they moved to Quinter where they have since resided. To this union 11 children were born, three of them, twin boys and one girl, died in infancy. Surviving him are his wife, and children: Mrs. J. W. Keller, Quinter; Mrs. A. L. Flake, Hoisington, Kansas; Eugene Zimmerman, Quinter; Mrs. Herman Miller, Denver, Colo.; Thomas Zimmerman, Collyer; David Zimmerman, Quinter; Elmer and Georgia of the home. He has been employed by the Union Pacific Railroad since moving to town, until his health began to fail. Relatives from a distance who attended funeral services, held at Sacred Heart Church, Park, Tuesday, July 31, were: Mr. and Mrs. George Kaiser and family, Mr. and Mrs. Jimmy Fitzgerald, Mrs. George Owens and daughter, all of Denver; Mr. and Mrs. John Wittman and daughter, Garden City; Mr. and Mrs. Seraphine Depperschmidt and family, Dresden; Mr. and Mrs. Phil Depperschmidt and daughter, Oakley; Mr. and Mrs. Gus Depperschmidt, Oakley; Mr. and Mrs. Alyosis Werth and Mr. and Mrs. Matt Zimmerman, Schoenchen; Mr. and Mrs. Frank Depperschmidt, Liebethal and Mrs. Carl Werth, Schoenchen.
