Bio
Mary Zuela Lula Jarboe was born December 18, 1877, in Grayson County, Texas. Lula married James William Stewart and had at least eight children. In 1910, she and James and their children were living in a house they owned at 608 Kansas Avenue, Walsenburg, Huerfano County, Colorado. James was working as manager of a livery barn. Their household included James and Lula and four of their children: Edgar, Vee, Ethel, and James. At that point, Lula had had six children but only four were living. In the next five years, Lula had two more children, Ralph and Edith, before losing her husband in 1918. In 1920 Lula Stewart was a widow, living on a farm she owned in Lexington, Cleveland County, Oklahoma. In her household were her five children: Vee, age 19, born in Texas; Ethel, age 14, born in Oklahoma; James, age 10, born in Colorado; Ralph, age 8, born in Colorado; and Edith, age 5, born in Colorado. Lula married James Powell Garrett August 20, 1927 in Pontotoc County, Oklahoma. In 1930, she and Powell were living in Lexington on the farm they owned.
