Hallie B (Bottom) Foster Hallie B Foster, 85, Columbus, passed away at 2:25 a.m. Friday, June 25, 2010, at Silver Oaks Health Campus, Columbus. Mrs. Foster was born in Kansas, Ill., to William David and Lottie Dell Melton Bottom. Married to Beryl E. Foster for 58 years, they began their lives together in Franklin, moved to Shelbyville and then to Columbus in 1960 where they eventually became the owners of the White Star Meat Market at Fourth and Franklin streets. The White Star was an institution in Columbus in the '60s, '70s and '80s. Their son, Jerry Foster, made nationwide news with his "hamburger selling promotion" of selling the burger at the price Indiana University held its basketball competitors' score to. Mrs. Foster's support of Beryl was unwavering throughout their lives. Together, their love for Christ guided them in their upbringing of their sons, Jerry and Greg, as well as other lives they touched along the way. Hallie's positive attitude and smile brightened the lives of those she touched. Longtime active members of First Christian Church of Columbus, the Fosters later became members of First Christian Church of Seminole, Fla., until they moved back to Columbus in September 2006. Survivors include her son, Greg, and his wife, Jeanette; daughter-in-law, Jan Greenlee; and grandchildren, Jennifer Foster and Ryan Foster, and Ryan's wife, Megan. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Beryl, on Feb. 21, 2008; her oldest son, Gerald Wayne Foster (Jerry); four brothers; and two sisters. Dan Wallace will conduct funeral services at 10 a.m. Monday at Barkes, Weaver & Glick Funeral Home, 1029 Washington St., Columbus. Burial will be at Garland Brook Cemetery, Columbus. Friends may call from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday and from 9 a.m. until service time Monday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to the Jerry Foster Memorial Scholarship Fund in order to further the educational opportunities for an annually selected recipient. (Indiana University Foundation, P.O. Box 500, Bloomington, IN 47402) Online condolences may be sent to the Foster family and a video tribute may be viewed at www.barkesweaverglick.com.
