The Hooper Sentinel May 4, 1939 Page 1, Col. 4 Mrs. John C. Corless It was with deep regret that the many old time Hooper friends of the Corless family learned last week of the death of Mrs. John C. Corless, 80, which occurred on Wednesday, April 26, at the home of her daughter Mrs. Lloyd Gordon, at Rapid City, S. D. The body was brought to Hooper and funeral services were held Friday afternoon from the Methodist church of which faith records show that Mrs. Corless had been a member of 50 years. Rev. W. N. Smitheram conducted the services and referred to her long life of Christian stewardship as an outstanding achievement. Sarah F. Sampson was born March 15, 1859, at Sarrucca, Penna., and was married to John C. Corless July 2, 1880, at Algona, Iowa. Three years later they moved to a homestead in Colfax County, Nebr., where they lived only a few months before coming to Hooper to make their home. For the past several years they had been going to Rapid City to spend the winter months with their daughter, Mrs. Lloyd Gordon, where Mrs. Corless' death occurred from ailments incidental to her age. In addition to her daughter, the deceased is survived by her aged husband, who was unable to attend the services for his wife. Two sons preceded their mother in death. Present at the services on Friday were two brothers, Charles I., and Clinton Sampson, and their wives, a sister, Mrs. Esther Willason, also a sister of Mr. Corless', Mrs. Georgia Helgens, and Mrs. Lyle Sampson, all of Algona, Iowa. Burial under the direction of Wollmer & Warne was made in the Hooper cemetery. Pallbearers were Dr. F. S. Lange, W. H. Mc Donald, C. O Hull, J. P.
