Son of Henry and Emily (Karstens) Kahlandt was born near Ralston, Nebraska on the family farm June 22, 1923. Delmar was the fourth born of eleven siblings. Delmar grew up farming and operating their grade "A" dairy at home with his brothers Edward and Clerence, until moving to Boone County in 1984. Delmar lived in Boone County until moving to Burwell, Nebraska in 1987. In 1991, Delmar moved back to Albion, where he continued to live until going to Harmony Homes in 2007. Delmar lived at Harmony Homes until his health forced him to enter Cloverlodge Care Center in St. Edward in July 2008. It was there where he passed away on June 3, 2010 at the age of 86. Delmar's greatest desire was farming and raising cattle. Delmar won the Nebraska state mechanical corn picking competition in 1953, with his IH unit. Surviving Delmar are 3 sisters: Dorothy Stutzman and husband Louis of Las Vegas, Nevada; Florence Ostransky of Gretna; Margaret Andrews and husband Melvin of Albion; 1 brother: Henry Kahlandt and wife Joan of Burwell. Delmar was also survived by many nieces, nephews, and sister-in-laws. Delmar was preceded in death by brothers: George, Glen, Edward, Clerence, Earl and Robert.
