Manasseh Smith Bawden, age 84, died June 16, 1990 in Salt Lake City. Born January 26, 1906 in Granger, Utah, son of John Howard and Mary Olive Smith Bawden. Married LaVern Perkins on November 12, 1924 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. Retired Sample Foreman from Kennecott Copper Corporation after forty-five years of service. Active member of the LDS Church. Among Smith's many accomplishments and experiences were: missionary on Temple Square, church ballroom dance director, avid baseball player for Farm Bureau League, and violinist with the Utah Symphony. Survived by his wife, Salt Lake City; one son and three daughters, Kent and Trudy Bawden, West Valley City; Elaine and Keith Andrus, Bennion; Joyce and Grant Ainsworth, Salt Lake City; Olive and Reid Petersen, West Valley City; two brothers and one sister, Ferris (Fuzz), Salt Lake City; Mike, West Valley City; Mrs. Helen Daw, Murray; and brother-in-law, Ted Inkley; nineteen grandchildren; and forty great-grandchildren. Preceded in death by infant daughter, Lavern, and great-grandson, Ammon Grant Smith. Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday, June 20, 1990 at 12:00 p.m. in the Salt Lake Fourteenth Ward Chapel, 140 West 200 North. Friends may call on Tuesday from 5:00-8:00 p.m. at McDougal Funeral Home, 4330 South Redwood Road (1700 West), and Wednesday at the Church one hour prior to the services. Interment will be in the Elysian Burial Gardens. Published in the Deseret News on June 18, 1990.
