I must have been about 6 or 7 years old at the time, I guess. As my father Joe pulled in my grandparents' driveway, I saw her standing on the front porch. As we (father, mother, brother, and myself) got out of the car and headed towards the porch, we notice that my great grandmother was crying. Joe (my father) asked her why she was crying. Her reply was that she wanted to go home. Home was back to the county of Hallettsville Texas. I had guessed at once that my great grandmother was not a city girl. Later that day though, the plans had been to take her home which was done. She had come for a visit to see her daughter, Mary Meyer, and the rest of the family for the weekend. By Sunday, she was ready to go home. A few years later, my grandparents took me to visit her at her home in Hallettsville Texas. A very small house (described in Rudolph A Jalufka page) on a large farm with a donkey or horse (cannot remember which one). She was in the small kitchen cooking. She didn't say much to me because she didn't even know who I was. She visited with her daughter as I stayed outside with my grandpa and great grandpa. My grandmother adored her mother and had told me that she was a truly kind woman. Always trying to help others. I only saw her twice in my life but always wished I had seen more of her. Note: According to Vera birth certificates, it states that Mary (Marie) Recek had 5 children, 5 children living. And then on Victoria birth certificate it states that Mary (Marie) had 6 children, 6 living. I asked my grandmother (Mary Jalufka Meyer) about this, and she didn't know anything about the other child. She said that her mother never had six children. So, confirming with the census records, I would say that Mary Recek Jalufka only had 5 children. -above history and information provided by Teresa Meyer, 2020-
