OBITUARY FROM THE SHINER GAZETTE, Shiner, Texas, Thursday, March 4, 1948 Mrs. J. Marek Sr. Placed At Rest Friday Morning Most impressive funeral services were those held for Mrs. John Marek Sr. Friday, Feb. 27, 9 a.m. from the family home, continuing to Sts. Cyril and Methodius Church for Requiem High Mass conducted by the Rev. J. J. Hanacek, with the assistance of the Rev. Edward Jansky and the Rev. R. C. Hoffmann. All three, Rev. Fathers conducted the graveside services. The Rev. J. J. Hanacek conducted the reciting of the Rosary at the family home Thursday evening at 7 p.m. Rev. Hanacek also gave a beautiful eulogy to her memory in the Czech sermon. Members of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Society K. J. Z. T. were in attendance at the Church with their banners. Mrs. Marek being a member, was accorded full honors. As stated last week Mrs. Marek passed away at the family home Wednesday, Feb. 25 at 8:15 a.m. Her health failed some two years ago, the past two weeks she had been seriously ill. Born Amalie Hanzelka in Libhost, Czechoslovakia, Nov. 7, 1863, she was married to John Marek Nov. 11, 1890. On March 19, 1892, they came to America, directly to this community, where they have continuously resided for more than half a century. Eight children were born to them. One son, Joseph, died 12 years ago. Mrs. Marek is survived by her husband, three sons, John Jr of Campbelton; Frank of Shiner; Henry at home; four daughters, Miss Theresia at home; Mrs. Chas. (Rosalie) Jansky, El Campo; Mrs. Chas. (Martha) Veit, Mrs. Frank (Ludmilla) Janik of Shiner. Two daughters-in-law, Mrs. John (Ella) Marek and Mrs. Frank (Christina) Marek. also 19 grandchildren and four great grandchildren. Burial was in the Catholic Cemetery, her grandsons serving as casket attendants and were Edwin and Fred Marek, Joseph and Charlie Jansky, Jr., Robert Veit and Frank Janik Jr. A devoted Christian mother has passed on to receive her eternal reward. We sympathize with all in their sorrow.
