Willard Herrold 'Speedy' Henson , 78, of Florence, passed away Tuesday morning, May 13, 2008, with one of his daughters at his bedside. Funeral services will be at 1:30 p.m. Thursday, May 15, 2008, at Elkins Funeral Home Chapel. Officiating will be special friend, Neal Terry. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. prior to the service. Burial will be at Tri-Cities Memorial Gardens with military honors. Herrold is survived by his soul mate and best friend, Annette Lowery; and the mother of his children, Dorothy Jean Henson; his children, Marcia Gail Henson, Monica Lynne Henson Cross, both of Florence, and Lisa Anne Henson Daniel, grandchildren - Emily Tyler Cross Wright (Ryan), Anna Leigh Cross, Paul Edwin Cross, Jr., Nathan Miles Williams, Audrey Leigh Williams; great-grandchildren, Christina Dawn Daniel, Molly Elizabeth Wright, Sophia Tyler Wright, Tyler Lee Johnson; brother, Franklin Odell Henson (Maxine); sisters, Alfredia Henson Blalock (Noble) and Alta Louise Tippett; numerous nieces and nephews and a host of friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, and nephew, Michael Thomas Mabry. Herrold was born to his late parents Benjamin Franklin Henson and Birdie Mamie Tyler Henson Johnson on May 25, 1929 , in Detroit, Mich., although he lived most of his life in Florence. He retired from Herald Printing Co. Inc. as shop foreman after 50 years of service. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War. Herrold lived for his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren and was lovingly called Papa. He loved to travel and play golf. Pallbearers will be Randy Blalock, Ed Cross, Neil Johnson, H.L. Stephenson, Mike Wilson, Randy Bruce and Neal Terry. Honorary pallbearers will be Dr. Mitch Bowen, Dr. Felix Morris, Dr. Sean Rhuland and special friend Billy Darby. Elkins Funeral Home is assisting the family.
