SWEET HOME – Mildred May Kahanek, 83, of Sweet Home, died Saturday, Jan. 27, 2001. She was born May 13, 1917, in Fayette County, to the late Charles J. and Theresa Jaresh Kahanek. She was a retired school teacher for Houston ISD after 30 years. She was a member of Sweet Home American Legion Post 571, Sweet Home American Legion Auxiliary, Yoakum Hospital Auxiliary, Our Lady of Guadalupe Court 207, Catholic Daughters of America and KJZT. She was a veteran of WWII, serving in U.S. Navy WAVES. Survivors: sister, Adell K. Robinson of Sweet Home. Preceded in death by: brother, George Kahanek. A wake service will be 7 p.m. Monday at Buffington Funeral Home chapel. Services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Queen of Peace Catholic Church, the Rev. Charles Sonnier officiating.
