Obituary published 20 Dec 1977 in "The Victoria Advocate", Victoria, TX: Mr. Kahanek SWEET HOME - George Kahanek, 69, of Sweet Home, died Monday at 5:45 a.m. in St. Joseph's Hospital in Houston. Born in Mexia, Texas, Aug. 12, 1908, Mr. Kahanek married Lucy Hoffer on Oct. 11, 1937 in Sweet Home. Mr. Kahanek was a retired employee of the Dow Chemical Co. in Shreveport, Texas, a member of the Queen of Peace Church and the KJT Lodge in Sweet Home. The body will lie at the Queen of Peace Church from 12:30 p.m. Wednesday until time of services. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday with the Rev. Eustace Hermes of Victoria officiating. Burial will be in the Sweet Home Cemetery under the direction of Kubena Funeral Home. A rosary will be recited by the parish at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday in the Kubena Funeral Home. Survivors, in addition to his wife, include a stepmother, Mrs. C. J. Kahanek of Yoakum; one son, Charles Leo Kahanek of Houston; one daughter, Mrs. Charles Alaritz of Boston; two half-sisters, Mrs. Adele Robinson of Sweet Home and Miss Mildred Kahanek of Houston and three grandchildren.
