Son of Louis and Stella (Smith) Weidner. Grew up on the farm; moved with his family to the Overton area, 1929. Attended rural schools, worked on the farm; joined the Civilian Conservation Corps at Halsey, drove the ambulance for several years. Married: June 8, 1940 to Nellie Shears in Lexington. She died in January 1944. After her death, he moved to the family farm and farmed with his father. Married: Dec. 27, 1954 to Rita Purnell; lived at Sumner, operated Weidner Garage; drove a school bus for Sumner Public Schools, 1957-1982. Served as mayor of Sumner and as Civil Defense. coordinator, was a member of Sumner Commercial Club and served on the Sumner Volunteer Fire Department; as a young man, he enjoyed baseball; pitched for Seneca, Overton, Miller and Eddyville; enjoyed bowling, pitching horseshoes, antique cars, playing the accordion, collecting baseball caps, gardening, and feeding the squirrels; enjoyed spending time with family and friends. Survivors include son, Gary of Sheridan, Wyo.; daughters, Peggy Choplin of Kearney, Maris Bentley of Amherst, Kay Stock of Hot Springs, S.D., and Lou Ann Tuzson of Scottsbluff; brothers, Cyril of Mesa, Ariz., and Merlon of Broken Bow; sister, Mary Lou Carr of Broken Bow; 14 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild; also Was preceded in death by his first wife, parents; grandson, Michael Choplin; and daughter-in-law, Marilyn.
