Civil War Veteran - Enlisted at 20 years of age for a 3-year term at Marquette, Marquette County, Michigan on 21 August 1861; mustered in on 13 September 1861, Company I, 1st Michigan Volunteer Infantry Regiment as a Private; wounded in action during the Battle of Malvern Hill, Henrico County, Virginia on 1 July 1862; mustered out with disability at Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on 26 December 1863; re-enlisted from Lodi, Columbia County, Wisconsin and mustered in on 27 August 1864, Company C, Wisconsin 42nd Infantry Regiment as a Sergeant; mustered out on 20 June 1865 at Milwaukee, Milwaukee County, Wisconsin. Marriage 1 Sarah Jane Woodley b: 14 MAY 1846 in Lycoming County, PA Married: 30 AUG 1864 in Dane County, WI (Credit to Denise Ottoson for this info)
