Shiner Gazette 7 Jan 1965 Guthrie Blahuta Rites Tuesday Guthrie V. Blahuta Sr., well known Moravia merchant and farmer died in the Renger Memorial Hospital, Inc. in Hallettsville, Sunday, January 3, 1965 following a lingering illness. Funeral services were scheduled for 9:30 a.m. at the Kubena Funeral Home in Hallettsville, and at the Ascension Catholic Church at Moravia at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, January 5, 1965. The Rev. Father Edward Bartsch, pastor at Moravia-St. John, officiated, offering a Requiem High Mass at the church. Interment was in the Moravia Catholic Cemetery. The deceased was a life-long member of the Moravia Catholic Church, and a member of the Moulton VFW, SPJST and a member of the Lavaca County School Board. He was born September 28, 1915, at Moravia, where he lived all his life, except for his time in service in World War II. He reached the age of 49 years, three months and five days. He attended school at Moravia and then at Schulenburg High School, and received higher education. On April 2, 1938, he married Miss Mildred Fertsch. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Guthrie (Mildred Fertsch) Blahuta Sr., of Moravia; mother, Mrs. Frank Blahuta of Moravia; two sons, Guthrie Jr., of Blinn Junior College at Brenham, and Glenn Davis Blahuta of Moravia; one daughter, Mrs. Robert (Arlene) Schwartz of Austin; one brother, Ira J. Blahuta of Moravia; one sister, Mrs. Emil Muska of Hallettsville; and one granddaughter. Rosary was recited at 7:00 p.m., by the parish, Monday, January 4. He was preceded in death by his father, and a son who died in infancy.
