Norbert J. Zulkoski, 82, of Grand Island died Tuesday, May 25, 2010, at the Veteran's Home in Grand Island. Mr. Zulkoski was born June 13, 1927, in Valley County to James and Helen (Jablonski) Zulkoski. He was preceded in death by a stepson, Don Drawbridge. Survivors are: his wife, Mildred "Maxine" of Grand Island; stepson and stepdaughter-in-law, Charles and Sarah Drawbridge of Calvert, Kent.; an adopted son, Martin James Zulkoski of California; stepdaughters and stepson-in-law, Mary and Eugene White and Vera Mach, all of Grand Island; stepdaughter-in-law, Juliana Drawbridge of Morrill; one sister, Viv Patrick of Casper, Wyo; stepgrandchildren, Ronald and Lynette White, Elizabeth Schneberger and Ronda and Mark Schneberger, all of Grand Island, Debbie and Brian Morse of Doniphan, Russ and Lori Mach of Chapman, Malisa Danzher of Georgia, Tonja and Jim Adams of Ohio, Wayne Drawbridge and Tony Drawbridge, both of Kentucky, and James and Kleta Drawbridge of Morrill; 19 stepgreat-grandchildren, 11 stepgreat-great-grandchildren; nieces; nephews and a host of friends and relatives. He was raised in Ord, where he also received his education. In September of 1945, Norbert entered the United States Army. He began his training at Fort Leonard Wood, Mo., and served in the Aleutian Islands. He was discharged on Dec. 25, 1946. On Aug. 9, 1955, Norbert married Marlene Defrates at St. Paul. On May 9, 1969, he was united in marriage to Mildred Maxine (Goldfish) Drawbridge at Ord. While living in Ord, Norbert worked as a carpenter and helped construct many houses. He retired from the carpentry business in June of 1992. The couple made their home south of North Loup before moving to St. Paul. Since January of 2010, Norbert and Maxine have resided at the Veteran's Home in Grand Island. Norbert was confirmed into the Lutheran Faith on Dec. 20, 1970. He was a member of the Ord American Legion Post #38. He enjoyed building cabinets, and yard ornaments. He also enjoyed hunting and fishing. He was also preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Rita Zulkoski, a sister and brother-in-law, Maxine and Don Simpson and brother-in-law, Gene Patrick.
