PRICE/SALT LAKE CITY - Ralph T. Coates, age 77, died June 13, 2004 from a stroke in Price. Ralph was born Sept. 22, 1926 in Mt. Pleasant, to John William and Annie Ovina Whalin Coates and was the youngest son, having four brothers and three sisters. Upon graduation from high school, Ralph decided to move to the big city of Salt Lake City. He had several jobs; being a cook, cab driver and laborer working at Kennecott Corp. He started working at Mountain Fuel in 1951 and continued working when the company became Questar Corp. Ralph moved to Price when Mountain Fuel brought gas into the Carbon County area. He retired from Questar Corp in 1988. Ralph also loved to do carpentry work and built four houses in his lifetime. Ralph was a past master of Joppa Lodge 26 F&AM. He was a KCCH of the Ancient and Accepted Scottish Rite Valley of Salt Lake City. Member of Price York Rite Bodies, where he served as past commandery of the Charles Fred Jennings Commander 6 of Price. Member of the El Kalah Shrine of Salt Lake City. He will be dearly missed by daughter, Marjann (Allen) Guptill; grandson, Archie (Erni Jo) Guptill; granddaughters, Lisa (Vernon) Keele, Kristen (Jared) Ballard; great-grandchildren, Cecelia Guptill, Kathryn Guptill, Allen Joseph Guptill, James Ballard; stepdaughter, Janet (Jack) Forrester; step-grandson, JC Forrester; sisters, Reba Angert, Venice Canaday; and many loving nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by parents; brothers, Bill, Ray, Sterling, Dee; and sister, Goldie. Masonic funeral service Thurs., June 17, 11 a.m., Mitchell Funeral Home. Family will be at Mitchell's Wednesday evening, 7-9 p.m. and Thursday one hour prior to service. Interment, Price City Cemetery. -Published in the Emery County Progress on June 15, 2004
