Bio

Barbara M. Modelski, 84, of Grand Island died Tuesday, May 18, 2010, at the Nebraska Veterans Home in Grand Island. Mrs. Modelski was born on June 9, 1925, in Central City to Daniel and Clara (Wagner) Power. Survivors are daughter and son-in-law, Julie and Robert Muirhead of Grand Island; daughter, Jolene Schrock of Billings, Mont.; stepdaughter, Patricia Schnitzmeier of Huntsville, Ala.; brother, Marvin Power of Lancaster, Calif.; sister, Frances Barth of Omaha; grandchildren, Craig Muirhead and his wife, Penny of Grand Island, Nicole Campbell and her husband, Shane of Grand Island and Kimberly Snapp of Billings, Mont.; 11 great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren and a host of friends and relatives. She graduated from Palmer High School in 1943. Following high school, she worked for Skagway for 15 years. She then went to work for State Farm for six years and later for Farmers Insurance. She retired in 1984 after 20 years with Farmers Insurance. She was united in marriage to Richard Mortensen. She later married Leo E. Modelski in 1979 in Grand Island. The couple made their home in Grand Island. Mr. Modelski preceded her in death on Nov. 10, 2001. Barbara was a charter member of the Military Order of the Purple Heart Auxiliary. She enjoyed traveling with Leo following their retirement. Barbara was preceded in death by her parents, her two husbands, brothers, Dennis, Bill and Jerry Power and an infant sister, Mary Ann Power.
