Gerald Ronald Chaffin, was born September 11, 1927 at Gables (Garfield County), Nebraska to Edith (Dickerson) and Orrin Chaffin. He grew up on their ranch northeast of Burwell. He attended Erina rural school until 8th grade and then Burwell Public Schools for one semester before moving with his family to Lincoln where he attended Lincoln High, graduating in 1945. He then entered the U.S. Navy and served aboard the USS Wichita and USS St. Louis. After serving in the Navy he attended the University of Nebraska, graduating in 1951. In February, 1958 he took a job with the Nebraska Game and Parks Commission where he was employed for the next 35 years at Bassett, Syracuse and Lincoln. In December of 1958 he was united in marriage to Marilyn Anderson at Southminster United Brethren Church in Lincoln. Gerald and Marilyn are the parents of two sons, Scott and Brian. He enjoyed woodworking, playing bridge and helping out his friends and neighbors. He liked all types of sports and worked on the event staff at UNL after his retirement. His kindness, integrity and generosity will be remember by all who knew him. Gerald is survived by his wife, Marilyn; sons, Scott of Lincoln and Brian of St. Paul, Minn.; his twin brother, Jerald (Rita), of Burwell; sister-in-law, Virginia Chaffin (Les) of Norfolk; brothers-in-law, Clayton Anderson (Margaret) of Burwell, and Homer Anderson (Darlene) of Long Beach, Calif.; sister-in-law, Carolie Larsen (Jimmy) of San Juan Capistrano, Calif.; and many nieces, nephews and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Wayne (Myrtle), Leland (Marie), Les; his sisters, Lois Horwart (Doyle), and Doris Cass (Don). Visitation will be held Monday (1/18/10) from 12 noon until 2 p.m. at Wyuka Funeral Home. Graveside services will be held Monday (1/18/10) at 2 p.m. at Wyuka Cemetery.
