Nora Ada Reese Medlin was the fifth child of Walter M Reese and Piercy Ellen Baker Reese. At about the age of 18 (in 1908) she gave birth to a son, Leonard M Reese. Being a single mother in those days was very difficult. She and Leonard do not appear together in the census records until 1930, when he was an adult. In 1910 she was shown to be living with her parents in Denton County, Texas. No employment shown. By 1920 she was married to Charles Henry Medlin (in 1913) and they had one child of their own, Rozelle, and two children born to Charles and his first wife, Sallie Whitwell Medlin. Sallie had died in 1911 from complications in childbirth and measles. The 1930 Federal Census shows Nora and Charles had moved to Amarillo, Potter County, Texas. Leonard and Rozelle were living with them. Nora was employed in a dry goods company as a saleslady. On 9 Apr 1930 Nora's father was recorded in the census as living with his daughter Bessie in Amarillo. He was killed by a hit and run driver in May 1930 and one newspaper article indicated at the time of his death he was living with Charles and Nora. In 1940, Nora and Charles were still in Amarillo, where they lived the rest of their lives. Leonard was living in their home at this time. Her employment on the census record was shown to be in a steam laundry on an alteration machine. Nora lived to be 92. Her step-son, Amos, called her Aunt Nora, perhaps because Nora was the aunt of his wife, Buna. Though she outlived her husband by 30 years, she never remarried and was buried by his side in 1982.
