Bio

BENNETT HUDSON HALE was born in Pontotac County, Misissippi ____ August 1862. He died ______ 1940 and is buried in Iatt cemetery in Grant Parish, Louisiana. His parents were WILLIAM B. HALE and KATORAH PAYTON. Bennett's father, William and William's brother, JAMES C. HALE fought in the Civil War. William and James, along with their respective families, moved to Garant Parish about 1870. They farmed, as most people in that time did. James was a preacher at Hebron Church. Bennett married first, 9 November 1884, at ________________, to SARAH 'SALLIE' ANGELINE _________, daughter of ALCY ALTHEA PURVIS and _________________. 'Sallie' was born 15 October 1866 in Rankin County Mississsippi. She died about 1896-1900 and according to family tradition is buried in Iatt cemetery, although there is no headstone. There were six children born to this marriage. Some family members say pneumonia was the cause of her death. Bennett's next marriage was to ADA L. BOX, daughter of ______________ and ______________________Box, 18 November 1900 in Mongomery, Louisiana. There were four children born to this union. On Ada's headstone the inscription reads 1874-1909, however, this stone was erected several years after her death and all evidence points to the fact that she died in 1906 shortly after childbirth. Ada is buried in Iatt cemetery. The third and last marriage was to SUSAN ZULENE IRBY, daughter of JAMES LEON IRBY and ELIZABETH BOREN, in Grant Parish, Louisiana on 25 July 1907. She wass born in Claiborne county, Mississippi on 25 September 1885. She and Bennett had eight children.
