Baytown Sun VERDICT HELD UP IN DEATH Hale's Friends Ask Investigation Justice of the Peace Roscoe Zierlein is withholding a verdict in the death of Victor H. Hale, 37, while continueing an investigation of a report that the man had been injured in a fight a few hours before his death. Hale's body was found in his bed at a hotel hear (sic) about 9:30 a.m. Saturday by his cousin and roommate, Ernest Ulmer, 26. Funeral services for Hale will be held at 4:30 p.m. today at Earthman Funeral Home with Rev. C.G. Owens, pastor of the Central Assembly of God Church, officiating. Burial will be in Hill of Rest Cemetery. Judge Zierlein said Hale, a machinist at the Missouri Pacific shops here, apparently died of natural causes, but at the request of friends, he has ordered further investigation of Hale's activities the night before his death. Ulmer told Judge Zierlein he came to his room at the hoted between 11:30 p.m. and midnight Friday and found Hale asleep. Hale was not dead at the time, Ulmer said, because he breathed deeply and moaned a little as the slept. It was not unusual for Hale to moan in his slee, Ulmer said. Zierlein said Hale had spent the afternoon and evening with a sister who lives near Baytown and at first was believed to have gone directly from her home to his room at the hoted Friday night. Later, is (sic) was reported that he had fought with a man at a tavern here before he went to his room. Hale is survived by five sisters, Mrs. C.O. Wells, Mrs. J.B. Janowski, Mrs. Adrian Isaacks, Mrs. Ruby Rhoden and Miss Dolly (sic) Hale, and a brother, W.D. Hale, all of Baytown. Pallbearers were to be S.S. Silvey, J.E. Carroll, G.B. McDonald, L.M. Windhan, A.J. Migues and E.L. Sheppard.
