Bio

Ray W. Bartunek, 93, of Grand Island died Sunday April 25, 2010, at St. Francis Medical Center. Mr. Bartunek was born on Feb. 22, 1917, at Bee to William and Amelia Bartunek. His wife, Betty preceded him in death on Feb. 22, 2008. Those left to cherish his memory are son and daughter-in-law, Bill and Kathy Bartunek of Grand Island; daughter, Nancy Bartunek of Glendale, Ariz.; sister, Marie Hain of Seward; grandchildren and their spouses, Stacy and Brian Sybrandts of Grand Island and Tyler and Megan Bartunek of Waverly; great-grandchildren, Kyla Sybrandts, Katelyn Sybrandts and Aniston Bartunek. He was also welcomed into heaven by his parents, and one sister Adeline. Ray grew up on the family farm near Bee. He served in the United States Army. He was united in marriage to Elizabeth 'Betty' L. Ficke on May 20, 1941, at David City. Following their marriage they lived and farmed near Bee for 25 years. They moved to Grand Island in 1967, where they owned and operated Dad's Liquor Store. He also worked for New Holland for eight years and as well as Penrose Machine. He was a member of St. Leo's Catholic Church and helped organize the Knights of Columbus Bingo for many years. He enjoyed gardening and spending time with family and friends.
