VALLEY COUNTY PIONEER GOES TO REWARD _______________ John A. Carkoski, In Failing Health For Some Time Passes Away Last Friday. Was Born In Poland. _______________ Although it was well known that John Carkoski was in failing health his many friends were non the less sorrowed to learn of his going on last Friday. Several times his children have been called to his bedside during the past few months and each time he has rallied until last week when he strength gradually left him and he passed quietly away. He settled in Valley County near Elyria in 1878 and did his full part in developing that section of the country. He played a prominent role in the various activities of his people. John Ambrose Carkoski was born in Poland, June 23, 1844. He died at his home in Ord May 21, 1921, aged 76 years, 10 months and 27 days. He came to America in 1868 and settled in St. Louis, Missouri. He was married July 15, 1874 to Rosalia Lutomski and to this union twelve children were born: J. W. Carkoski and Mary Greenwalt of Arcadia, Frank and John of Elyria, Michael of Tarnov, Margaret Radke of Big Springs, Salomea Perlinski of Ord, Paul of Elyria, Helen Schroll of Ashton, Eva who died in infancy, Leo Carkoski and Wanda Perlinski, also Joseph Austin who was taken to raise in addition to their large family of children. Besides these he leaves to mourn his going 26 grandchildren and a host of friends. Mr. Carkoski has been a resident of Ord since December 1919. The funeral which was largely attended was held Monday at 10 o'clock at the Catholic Church in Ord and interment was made at the local Catholic cemetery.
